DARLEY Dale residents are keen to ensure that their voices are heard over the contentious plans for the St Elphin's school site.

A group of townsfolk plan to present a letter outlining their major concerns during a planning meeting being held tonight by the town council.

The meeting, at the Whitworth Centre at 7pm, will look at the amendments to the developers, Audley Court's proposals for the former school site, amongst other planning issues.

Dissatisfied homeowners living in the vicinity of the former St Elphin's site organised a residents meeting on August 15 to take advice from a professional with expertise on planning issues.

John Mordue from Grove Lane said: "People in the locality are particularly concerned to ensure that open spaces along the A6 at each end of the St Elphin's site remain as open spaces.

"These areas are meant to be protected by Local Plan policy NBE 11."

They are calling for the town council to totally oppose amended plans to create car parks and facilities on green land opposite Grove Lane.

As reported in last week's Mercury, the amended proposals may be be in conflict with the district's adopted local plan.

Residents have also signed and will hand in a letter to Darley Dale Town Council requesting that their views be fully represented at tonight's meeting and in any future consultations.

Other concerns highlighted in the letter include over-development of the site, the height of the proposed buildings and the impact of over lighting the site at night.

Members of the public are welcome to attend tonight's planning meeting and there will be a ten minute slot at the beginning of the meeting to hear representations from the public."
