School buyer withdraws.....

ST ELPHIN'S pupils are still in the dark about their future after a buyer withdrew at the 11th hour.

Phoenix-like, the school promised to come back from the dead after a private company showed an interest.

But in a statement released this week, Global Education Management Systems (GEMS) said that they had now withdrawn from negotiations.

The statement read: "Global Education Management Systems Ltd has announced that it is withdrawing from the negotiations for the potential acquisition of St Elphin's School, Matlock, which is presently in administration.

"GEMS entered into discussions with the administrations but have concluded with regret that the school would not best fit the GEMS portfolio."

Teachers and parents have been waiting on tender hooks about whether a much rumoured buy-up of the school was going to materialise.

If no decision is made over the coming weeks, many parents will be left with only a few weeks to find another place for their child."
