PUPILS, parents and staff of St Elphin's School in Darley Dale held a party last week to commemorate the last day of the 160-year-old school.

Year 10 pupil Georgina Silcock said: "It is a big disappointment. It is not just our education that is going it is our friendships that we have built up over the years."

Pupils are struggling to find places at other schools so late in the academic year and many are being privately tutored.

Multi-Mix Music Ltd of Matlock provided a disco for the party and Matlock Mums set up a bouncy castle free of charge."
