Plans for ambitious new school projects A DARLEY Dale school can now bring forward ambitious sport and computer projects thanks to half a million pounds inheritance.

Brenda Bowers who was a school governor for more than 30 years has left St Elphins School the cash in her will.

Headteacher, Erica Taylor said: "We are extremely grateful to the family to be given this. It shows how loyal and long standing our governors are.

"It means we can get on with projects now which were planned for for five years time.

"We want to improve our sports facilities and computers."

Meetings between teachers and governors have been planned to decide exactly how to spend the money.

Mrs Bowers, who died last September, made the private school the main beneficiary of her 2m will.

The Bowers initially became linked with the school after Brendas husband Toms firm of solicitors did all the legal administration.

After Tom died in the early 1980s, his wife set up an award allowing selected children to stay on at the school when their parents couldnt meet the full fees.

"Brenda was a strong supporter of the school but we were amazed at how much we were given," added Mrs Taylor.
