Fight to halt school plans.....

AN ACTION group has launched a fresh campaign to oppose the latest plan from St Elphin's School to build houses and upgrade sports facilities in its grounds.

The Darley Residents Action Group, which represents over 100 families, believes the amended proposals are no more acceptable than the previous.

The last application, designed to save the cash-strapped private school, was turned down because it contravened the Local Plan.

Brian Saville, spokesman for the action group, said: "Just because St Elphin's have reduced the number of houses, and plan to build on one site rather than two, doesn't mean this scheme is right for Darley Dale.

"Very little has changed – it still flies in the face of the Local Plan in terms of open spaces along the A6 and it is essentially development in the countryside of houses which are not needed at all."

He added: "There isn't even any provision for affordable homes this time. It is purely a plan to raise as much cash as possible from the property developers."
