ST Mary’s Church in South Darley hosted a garden party on in July 1958 to raise church funds.
Girls from Woodlands School in Matlock gave a display of country dancing on the lawns of the County Civil Defence headquarters, where the garden party was held.
The event also included a hairstyles competition, a wild flower contest and a treasure hunt.
A range of stalls were on offer from groups including the Mothers’ Union, selling sweets, cakes and buttonholes.
The event was opened by Miss E. E Stopford – who was retiring that summer from her post as head mistress at St Elphin’s School in Darley Dale. She was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Beverley Taylor.
The excited youngsters pictured here are enjoying a game of ‘spin the wheel of fortune’ with Miss Stopford and Rev J H Fray.
The event raised £77."
