Dales youngsters receive their Duke of Edinburgh awards.....

A NUMBER of adventurous pupils from schools and groups across the Dales have received their Duke of Edinburgh awards.

Family and friends gathered at the Medway Centre in Bakewell to see the youngsters receive their certificates and badges from Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for community services Cllr Bob Janes.

Those honoured were: Gold Awards – Emma Turner (Lady Manners); Silver Awards – Richard Foster (Alderwasley School), Winston Churchill, Richard Gray, John Griffiths, Kyla Owen, Jenny Saul (Lady Manners), Bronze Awards – Lucy Capek, Steven Bell, Arran McCall, Michael Slater (Alderwasley School), Dave Cusick, Gemma Goodyear, Richard Hodkin, Kim Mason, Alex Rogers, Philip Spowart, Lucie Wood (Anthony Gell), Daniel Billinge, Josie Cork, Nicholas Clarke, Rachel Curry, Clare Hawkins, Matt Higgins, Alice Holmes, Chloe Matthews, Nicholas McQueen, Thomas Osborn, Katie Renger (Lady Manners), Heather Haggis, Annie Sedgwick (St Elphins).

The scheme aims to help young people gain confidence and independance while offering them the opportunity to try new pursuits and hobbies.

Duke of Edinburgh awards can be done through a number of outlets including Derbyshire County Council's youth clubs and schools as well as voluntary organisations, and are seen by employers as a sign of hard work and commitment.
