Learning pet care.....

"Published on Thursday 11 December 2003 10:17

ST Elphin's Junior School is one of seven schools in the country piloting a programme to promote responsible attitudes towards pet ownership among children.

The scheme, a Masterfoods Education Centre initiative called Pet Proficiency, teaches children about important aspects of pet care, allowing them to interact with pets and receive endorsement for responsible pet care.

St Elphin's headteacher Rosemary Cuff said: "A pet can play a valuable role within a family unit and it is important for children to learn from an early age how to care for pets.

"The children are enthusiastic and are really enjoying the programme."
